Enter the Swamp Witch...

This past January, my husband and I took a cruise in the Caribbean. We made stops in Key West, Cozumel, and Grand Cayman. My favorite port was in Belize.

While visiting Belize, I ventured out with a group to tour the Mayan ruins. I was awe struck. I even climbed to the top of the largest pyramid, which was no small feat, considering my extreme fear of heights.

On the way back to the port, our tour bus had to pull over in order to allow another vehicle to pass on the very narrow dirt road. I glanced over and watched the most fascinating woman perform her daily chores.

The woman appeared to be quite elderly, had very dark skin, was washing clothes in a plastic tub before hanging them in a line to dry, and was standing barefoot in shallow flood water.

I knew that I never wanted to forget this woman, so I decided then and there to create a Woven Branches character based on her. The name Delvenia Montrose came to my mind instantly, as if it was handed to me on a silver platter.

The swamp witch was born, and you met her briefly in The Noeware Man.

It is an incredible privilege to write a Southern soap opera series with such rich and diverse characters. Thank you all for supporting my little novella book series.
