Chapter Eight, My Refuge
When writing a soap opera, one tends to get bogged down in the drama. It's easy to forget that, at the end of the day, a serial series is about the human experience. I never want to lose sight of touching family bonds.
Organically, the eighth chapter of each book has found me in the kitchen of Cora Washington, as she lovingly prepares food for her family. The Washington/Blakely clan has, without a doubt, become the most popular and asked about set of Woven Branches characters.
I feel like no matter what heaviness is happening in the chapters before and after it, chapter eight provides me with the opportunity to settle in for a bit of sentimentality.
When the overall book series features a heavy helping of murder, infidelity, criminal behavior, and general mayhem, it's so nice to guarantee myself a space where love, sometimes tough love, is on the menu.
